Teamwork and competition are critical aspects of learning life skills. Actions sports are largely individual sports, but adding a distinctive team element draws out the best in everyone. We believe that creating teams will build teamwork and community. It will knit the individuals closer together, working towards individual and common goals. We are about “creating organized communities of hope.” and teams are an outlet towards that goal.
“Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust.” – Jesse Owens
Two types of competitive teams are being created.
- Amateur Sponsored. The “Am” teams will be a collection of knxsports sponsored riders who will be given a variety of items for riding. These will include clothing, shoes, helmets and entry fees into local and regional competitions.
- Local Schools. Part of the vision of Knox Extreme Sports is to create a series of skate and bmx teams in the schools around Knox County. These teams will be in middle and high-school and have their “local” skateparks at Farragut (Concord Park), Fountain City and Powell, as well as KSP. Our vision is to create regular competitions between the schools culminating in a “finals” event at KSP at the end of the school year.
The “Am” teams will be open to anyone 8 years and older, while the school teams will be open only to those in 6th – 12th grade, currently enrolled in school and achieving a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Both competitive teams are slated to start in January of 2016.
